Graduated Driver Licencing (GDL) Changes
Beginning April 1, 2023 all drivers currently in the GDL program who meet the following criteria will be eligible to exit the GDL program.

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have completed the 24 months of probationary driving
-
Must be suspension and demerit free for the last 12 months
If you are a new Class 5 or Class 6 driver after April 1, 2023 you will be in the GDL program and have to complete the above listed requirements to exit it.
The following changes will be made to the GDL program.

Remove Class 5 and Class 6 advanced road tests
-
Enhance the Class 5 and Class 6 basic road tests to include advanced road test elements

Allow drivers to reduce their probation period by up to 6 months by completing a Class 5 or Class 6 driver training program from a driver training school licenced by Transportation and Economic Corridors
On June 25, 2023 eligible GDL drivers will automatically exit the GDL program and will receive a letter from the government indicating they have exited the GDL program.
On April 1, 2023 if a driver is eligible and has an urgent need to exit the GDL program right away, they can go to a registry agent office to confirm eligibility. If it is determined that the driver is eligible the GDL licence will be exchanged for a non-GDL licence free of charge.

From April 1 to June 24, 2023, all restrictions of a GDL licence will remain in place until the driver has gone to a registry agent and received their full Class 5 licence or have received a letter from the government in July 2023 indicating they have exited the GDL program.
